My last week in Sneek

This was my third and last week in the Netherlands. We took advantage of our days off to explore the city where we are staying, and we also went to Amsterdam for a day. Amsterdam is a very beautiful city but filled with tourists, lots of people everywhere. However, there are also many things to see and foods to try.

On Tuesday, February 13, we were supposed to have a school excursion, but it was ultimately canceled. So that day, we went to do our internship at the school's cafe/restaurant, Kliem Plaza. First, we made the mise en place for the day, and then a classmate and I were in charge of making pasta for the meal. It was a pasta dish with garlic, onion, kale, cream, Parmesan cheese, and canned mushrooms. After preparing the dish several times, I had to teach one of the school's students how to make it so that they could also prepare the pasta. My other classmate, who didn't make pasta, learned how to make stroopwafel, a traditional Dutch cookie

On Wednesday, February 14, we had our internship at the Kiem school restaurant. It is a fine dining restaurant where third-grade students prepare the offered dishes. All the students there, despite being so young, are very professional. Many of them had done internships in Michelin-starred restaurants in different European countries. The chef in charge of the restaurant is one of the best chefs in the Netherlands, having worked alongside Gordon Ramsay and won national cooking awards. This day was Valentine's Day, and the menu was designed accordingly. I personally had to prepare one of the appetizers, which was a beetroot tartare with apple and smoked trout. My classmates and I also had to design the dish; the teacher only told us which ingredients to use, and the rest was up to us. It was a very productive day, and I also helped in the preparation of one of the desserts, which was a white chocolate sphere filled with dark chocolate mousse. Thanks to the advanced English skills that most students and teachers had, working there was not a problem. Besides, they were all very friendly and sociable, making it a very enjoyable day.

From Thursday, February 15, to Saturday, February 17, I had my internship at Noah Burger Bistro. As the name suggests, it is a restaurant specializing in burgers, with eight different burgers on the menu and some breakfast dishes such as cheese pancakes, quesadillas, scrambled eggs, or poached eggs, and a variety of salads. In those three days, I was responsible for mise en place and also preparing several dishes. Chef Jordi let me prepare all the orders that came in, and he was very pleased with how quickly I learned and how well I worked. Well, that's what he told me.

Sunday 18 of February I returned to Finland.
